In the 1990’s as the Cup Series enjoyed explosive exposure,
the sanctioning bodies’ attention on the DASH Series waned
and therefore the potential was not fully realized by the industry.
As NASCAR evaluated its business plan, the DASH Series uniqueness
hindered it from fitting the development model set forth by the
former owners. NASCAR then determined to find a suitable motorsports
organization that could offer the Series the focus necessary to
propel it to a well deserved level of exposure; thusly transferring
the DASH Series to a group called IPOWER, (International Participants
of Winning Edge Racing).
The IPOWER Dash Series is the only regional touring series that
races at Daytona International Speedway, with its season opener
during the annual Speedweeks festival in February. The 2004 racing
season is the inaugural season under the IPOWER sanctioning body;
however it marks the 29th anniversary of the DASH Series. That
is 29 consecutive years of developing the racing talents of the
future stars of racing and providing exciting grassroots motorsports
entertainment.
The Cars:
The Dash Series, Presented by IPOWER, race car is essentially
a scaled down version of the NASCAR Nextel Cup car. Built on
a 100-inch wheelbase steel tubular chassis, and enclosed in all
steel,
production style body, and rolling on a 5-lug, 15 inch wheels
and Goodyear Eagle bias ply tires, a 270 cubic inch 9:1 compression
V-6 engine producing approximately 325 horsepower. The power
plant
is restricted to a two-barrel carburetor.
Weighing in with the driver at 2750 pounds (2950 at tracks of
one mile or better), the Dash Series car is capable of speeds in
excess of 165 mph (170+ in the draft) with restrictor plate engines
at Daytona International Speedway and they run speeds comparable
to, or better than, the V-8 powered Late Model Stock Divisions
at the short-tracks visited by the series.
